Il y a plus de deux décennies, RAMMSTEIN a construit un portail qui m’a permis d’explorer plus que des paroles françaises et anglaises.  Pourtant, me voici de retour avec le Deutsch et l’un des groupes le plus actif des derniers temps : FEUERSCHWANZ et leur dernier cadeau des fêtes : Memento Mori.  Qui d’autre sortirait un album pendant ces temps festifs que mon groupe préféré de 2021.

Mis à part le confinement qui a retourné les artistes à la planche à dessin, c’est le genre de travail qui vous fait sourire et vous reconnecter avec votre intérieur…peu importe le type de combattant que vous voulez devenir. À leur façon bien « geek », tout le monde est inclus, des vikings aux barbares en passant par le tout-puissant Krampus! Et le tout dans la bonne humeur et le talentueux. Et ici le talent n’est encore qu’un euphémisme. Quand vous pouvez faire fonctionner ensemble des guitares électriques, de la basse granuleuse et de la guimbarde dans l’intro de Untot Im Drachenboot, je suis impressionnée ! Puis changer de ton avec cette balade médiéval (bien sûr !) appelée Das Herz eines Drachen qui s’adapte telle une romance-autour-du-feu grâce à la voix basse du Hauptmann, mais comme j’appris à connaître leur style, il est probablement rempli de sous-entendu que mon allemand débutant ne peut encore rattraper !

Ce groupe de joyeux individus reste fidèle à sa nature avec cet album et l’édition Deluxe qui inclut les reprises plus « sérieuses » où ils donnent une touche de métal médiéval à de nombreuses anciennes ou récentes chansons d’artistes internationaux. À défaut de me répéter, c’est uniquement avec FEUERSCHWANZ que vous pouvez retrouver Warriors Of The World (MANOWAR) et Blinding Lights (The WEEKND) en un seul endroit et que le tout s’harmonise !

Bien que le dicton de la chanson-titre soit très profond sur la réflexion de vivre tout en étant conscient de la mort, ces amis germains l’ont utilisé avec leur vision au style dessin animé le tout enrobé d’une expérience très digne. De plus, ne manquez pas tous leurs vidéos, cela ajoute au cachet !

More than two decades ago, RAMMSTEIN built the threshold that would allow me to go through and explore more than just French and English lyrics. Yet, here I am back to Deutsch with one of the most restless bands around: FEUERSCHWANZ and their latest holiday present, Memento Mori. Who else but my favourite band of 2021 would release an album during the year’s end celebrations?

Lockdown aside, that sends artists back to the drawing board, this is the kind of work that makes you smile and reconnect with your inner… whatever kind of fighter you aim to become. In true geek fashion, everyone’s included, from vikings to barbarians to the almighty Krampus! And all in good fun, but nonetheless talented. And talent is still an understatement. When you can make electric guitars, gritty bass, and mouth harp work together in the opening of Untot Im Drachenboot, I am impressed! Then a tone change with this mediaeval ballad (of course!) called Das Herz eines Drachen that fit like a romance-around-a-fire because of the low vocal of the Hauptmann himself, but as I have come to know their style, it’s probably filled with subtext that my beginner’s German cannot catch yet! 

This band of merry individuals are staying true to their nature with this album and the deluxe edition that includes more « serious » covers where they give a mediaeval metal twist on many old or new songs by international artists. To repeat myself, only with FEUERSCHWANZ, you can find on the same album, Warriors Of The World (MANOWAR) and Blinding Lights (THE WEEKND) and make it work!

Although the title track’s saying on living while being mindful of death is profound, these deutschen Freunde used it as this cartoon-style humour all wrapped up in a very worthwhile experience.’t miss all of the videos they have made; it heightens everything!
