KORPIKLAANI + ENSIFERUM + TROLLFEST + NINI – FOLKFEST OF THE NORTH TOUR | SALLE MONTAIGNE – QUEBEC | 28.02.2025

Il n’y a rien de plus parfait que de commencer une fin de semaine enneigée avec les plus grands groupes de folk metal du moment. Ces invités musicaux nordiques ont donné à la Salle Montaigne l’ambiance de taverne qu’elle mérite!

NiNi
Tout d’abord, NiNi, dont le style aide à redéfinir le genre à leurs conditions avec un mélange de tonalité asiatique et de lourdeur de guitare. Ce groupe américano-taïwanais vous est peut-être familier après l’apparition de la musicienne NiNi à l’émission America’s Got Talent  (saison 19).

Bien que jeunes et un peu « verts » (puisqu’il s’agit aussi d’une première tournée nord-américaine), ils ont néanmoins laissé une bonne impression. Alors que des artistes comme TENGGER CAVALRY et THE HU ont ouvert la porte de la fusion metal des cultures, voir la nouvelle génération est inspirant.

TROLLFEST
Connus pour leur absurdité, ces métalleux norvégiens se sont surpassés pour cette tournée. Rien ne pouvait me préparer à voir des Vikings barbus en costumes de flamants roses débarquer sur scène.

Connaissant bien le public québécois, ils renouvellent leur lien énergique une fois de plus. À en juger par les acclamations bruyantes et les mains en l’air, le « Seigneur Rose » a dû être satisfait! Sans blague, la barre était plus haute pour le prochain groupe.

ENSIFERUM
C’est leur première visite depuis 2019, et le groupe réaffirme lui aussi son lien fort avec un public qui semblait conquis d’avance. ENSIFERUM joue rapidement la liste des chansons, qui comprend des succès de plus de deux décennies et le nouvel album de circonstance Winter Storm. 

Ils ne parle pas beaucoup aux gens et ils n’ont pas besoin non plus puisque le public en retour n’a pas hésité à s’engager vocalement ou dans des moshpits, entraînés par le rythme.

KORPIKLAANI
Cette soirée folklorique s’est terminée avec les vétérans finlandais que sont KORPIKLAANI. Leur capacité à raconter des histoires a semblé captiver un public plus paisible cette fois-ci.

Jouant des chansons de leur répertoire anglais et (principalement) finlandais, une belle complicité et des sourires sincères venaient appuyer leur performance.

Tous les éléments de la musicalité de KORPIKLAANI étaient présents pour plaire aux fans réunis dans la Salle Montaigne. 

Ce soir, les pays nordiques se sont réunis sur et derrière la scène pour célébrer la musique et oublier pendant un instant le quotidien. MED notre photographe, remercie les fans, d’être aussi coopératif avec elle quand elle vous dérange avec ses appareils photos.

Nothing could be more perfect then starting a snowy weekend with some of today’s greatest festive bands in folk metal. These northern musical guests turned the Salle Montaigne into the tavern ambiance it deserves!

NiNi
First off, NiNi, whose style help redefine the genre on their own terms with a mix of Asian sounds and loud guitars. This American-Taiwanese band might seem familiar after musician Nini appeared on America’s Got Talent (season 19). Although young and a bit “green” (as this is also a first North American tour), the band nonetheless left a good impression. While the likes of TENGGER CAVALRY and THE HU opened the metal doors to cultural fusion, watching the next generation of artists is really a delight.

 
TROLLFEST
Known for their goofiness, these Norwagians metalheads outperformed themselves on this tour. Nothing could have prepared me for bearded vikings in flamingo costumes raging on the stage. Familiar with the Quebec audience, they renewed their party energy once more. Judging by the loud cheers and hands up in the air, the Pink Overlord must have been pleased ! Joking aside, this set the bar higher for the next act.

ENSIFERUM
For their first visit since 2019, ENSIFERUM also reinforced their strong bond with the attendance, who seemed conquered in advance. Rolling through the setlist that included hits from more than two decades and the circumstantial new release Winter Storm. The band did not speak to the people much and they did not need to. The crowd in return did not shy away from engaging vocally or into moshpits according to the rhythm. 

KORPIKLAANI
This folk night concluded with veteran Finns KORPIKLAANI. Their storytelling capability seemed to capture a quieter audience this time. Playing songs from their English and (mostly) Finnish repertoire, their performance was supported with good musicianship and genuine smiles. All the elements of KORPIKLAANI’S musicality were present to please the fans gathered in Salle Montaigne. 

On that night, countries of the North reunited both on and off stage to celebrate music and forget for a moment about mundane life. MED our photogrpaher, would like to thank the fans, for being so cooperative with her when she disturbs with her cameras.
