L’ULTIME TOP 2024 DE GENEVIEVE OUELLET
MES ÉCOUTES SPOTIFY 2024
2024 est terminée, et c’est le moment des bilans. Je suis toujours bien excité d’analyser mes stats. Cette année, fidèle à moi-même, j’ai fait tourner en boucle les mêmes chansons et les mêmes bands.

Sans surprise, LASTKAJ 14 est numéro 1 pour une 7e année de suite. Ils ont sorti 18 nouvelles chansons en 2024. Un EP de six chansons en mai et un album de 12 chansons en septembre. Et j’ai, bien sûr, abusé de ce dernier avec plus de 79 heures d’écoute en seulement trois mois. Je ne me suis pas encore remise de ce que m’a fait vivre cet album. Lire ma critique ici . Probablement leur meilleur album depuis l’arrivée d’Ammy en 2017. Ne me demandez pas de varier mes écoutes, quand mon band préféré de tous les temps sort des chansons de cette qualité!

Puisque 45 % de mes 45 000 minutes d’écoute Spotify était du même groupe, il reste très peu de temps pour des découvertes. Malgré tout, j’ai quand même ajouté trois bands à mes playlists, HJERNVERK, Smajävlafötter et AUTHORITY ZERO, un des rares groupes non suédois dans mes tops.

Côté spectacles, 2024 a été un rêve pour moi. Voici une liste des principaux, qui ont fait de mon année 2024 une année record!
LASTKAJ 14 (trois fois), PERKELE, ULKE WITH CHARTA 77 (Dia Psalma, Strebers), KARDINAL SYND, EPA, SMAJÄVLAFÖTTER, SLUTSTATION TJERNOBIL, MISCONDUCT (deux fois), ZEBRAHEAD, MILLENCOLIN (deux fois), CHASER, THE BOUNCING SOULS, RAISED FIST, DROPKICK MURPHYS, THE HIVES, AUTHORITY ZERO, BELVEDERE, MIMIKRY (deux fois).
Je ne pourrai pas m’étendre sur chacun d’entre eux, même s’ils le méritent tous, mais plusieurs critiques ont déjà été publiées sur le média (Envol, RBF). Par contre, je dois absolument vous parler de ceux qui m’ont laissé les plus fortes impressions!
LION’S LAW @ L’ANTI, QUÉBEC – 28.04.2024
Un des meilleurs band Oi ! Il était sur ma wishlist depuis tellement longtemps (depuis 2018)! Des musiciens extra talentueux et sympathiques. Un spectacle incroyable, un son parfait (c’est L’Anti quoi!). J’ai le souvenir d’un moment très intime et chaleureux. Petit dimanche soir entre amis kind of vibe.
VOYAGE EN SUÈDE – CROISIÈRE PUNK CLOSE-UP BATEN – 10 au 20.05.2024
Nous sommes privilégiés d’avoir d’aussi bon bands, outre-mer, qui nous rendent visite, mais parfois, on doit traverser l’océan pour voir les groupes qui ne peuvent pas venir.
Cette année, j’ai eu la chance de voir ou revoir plusieurs de mes groupes suédois préférés qui étaient présents à la croisière punk Close-Up baten (soit PERKELE, ULKE with CHARTA 77 (DIA PSALMA, STREBERS), KARDINAL SYND, EPA, SMAJÄVLAFÖTTER, SLUTSTATION TJERNOBIL).
On ne peut pas vraiment parler de chance, puisque j’ai dû réhypothéquer ma maison (presque) et faire le voyage jusqu’en Suède (+6000 km) pour vivre ça. L’opportunité de voir tous ces bands en un seul voyage a pesé lourd dans la balance, mais honnêtement, j’y allais pour une seule raison, LASTKAJ 14.
Un voyage extrêmement coûteux, que je n’avais pas les moyens de faire, mais qui a valu chaque heure travaillée, chaque cenne dépensée. Car, pour moi, il n’y a aucun autre endroit au monde où je me sens à ma place, ni aucun autre moment où je suis contente d’être moi!
J’ai assisté à trois shows de LASTKAJ 14 d’une qualité incroyable et chacun dans un type de salle différente, donc une ambiance différente.
PUSTERVIK, GÖTEBORG (SUÈDE) – 10.05.2024
J’ai atterri à Göteborg pour le premier spectacle qui avait lieu dans une grande salle pouvant accueillir 900 personnes. On n’était pas 900, mais il y avait une belle foule dynamique qui chantait toutes les paroles! Une crowd engagée mais surtout, respectueuse, rien à voir avec le Québec.
KATALIN, UPPSALA (SUÈDE) – 11.05.2024
J’ai suivi le groupe jusqu’à Uppsala le lendemain. Cette fois le spectacle était dans une grande salle, mais sur une plus petite scène et avec une plus petite foule. Une configuration beaucoup plus intime et une vraie proximité avec les musiciens. Je me revois à l’avant, le son de la guitare de la magnifique Ammy en pleine face, les yeux rivés sur le batteur qui donne tout un show et qu’on ne voit jamais assez dans les vidéos. Un son puissant, clean et une performance impeccable de la part du band. Même dans mes rêves les plus fous, je n’aurais jamais pu espérer une meilleure prestation sur tous les points. Je peux affirmer sans hésiter que j’ai vécu, dans ce spectacle et la soirée qui a suivi, les meilleurs moments de ma vie, rien de moins!
PAAVLI KULTUURIVABRIK, TALLIN (ESTONIE) – 18.05.2024
Le dernier spectacle était à 15h en plein air lors de l’escale à Tallinn, en Estonie. Un autre show qui valait le déplacement. Mais celui-ci m’a touchée pas seulement par sa qualité, mais par son caractère unique. C’était mon deuxième voyage et à chaque fois que je suis allée voir LASTKAJ 14, j’ai eu droit à des attentions spéciales de la part du band.
Pour le spectacle de Tallin, ils ont invité sur scène Safran, un ancien membre du groupe pour jouer du violon sur quelques chansons dont « Tjuvtricks och rackarspel » » une de mes préférés qu’ils ne jouent plus live. Apparemment ce n’était pas assez gentil de l’avoir invité à jouer sur l’album après que j’ai un peu « insisté » dans ma critique de leur EP de 2023!
PERKELE + THE PROWLERS, L’ANTI, QUÉBEC – 07-09-2024
ENFIN! Après 8 ans d’attente. Bon, j’ai vu Perkele en Suède en mai mais, à la maison, dans ma salle préférée et avec un autre de mes bands chouchous, The Prowlers, c’était tellement mieux! Vous n’avez pas idée à quel point j’ai rêvé de ce spectacle. J’ai gardé espoir et j’ai été récompensée. Maintenant, tout est gravé dans ma tête à jamais. J’ai tellement espéré ce spectacle que mes attentes étaient folles et je n’ai pas été déçue. Allez lire mon compte rendu de cette soirée! Ce band est tout simplement incroyable! J’ai tellement vécu un moment marquant que j’ai gardé mon bracelet d’entrée au poignet pendant deux semaines pour me souvenir et revivre le moment. Je n’arrivais pas à faire la coupure.
« FAN ATTITUDE »
2024, c’est aussi l’année où j’ai oublié que j’étais la fille qui reste à l’écart, et je me suis laissée être une vraie fan girl. Ça m’a permis de faire de belles rencontres et de vivre des moments privilégiés avec mes artistes préférés.
PETIT PALMARÈS
- J’ai jasé avec Fredrik Olsson, le batteur de BJÖRNARNA, qui n’en revenait pas que des Québécois viennent voir des bands suédois underground. L’humilité suédoise à son meilleur, chic type! Il ne jouait pas, mais j’ai vu le groupe en 2019.
- J’ai rencontré Thomas Österberg, le chanteur/guitariste de FRUKTANSVÄRLD et sa femme. Eux aussi étaient touchés et heureux que leur musique, même en suédois, puisse atteindre les gens jusqu’au Québec. Ils ne jouaient pas non plus, mais ils sont à presque tous les shows de LASTKAJ 14. Je savais qu’ils y seraient, j’ai donc mis ma veste de son band et mon chum, son gilet.
J’ai rencontré Fredrik Olsson, le chanteur/guitariste de MISCONDUCT, et il m’a donné sa setlist.
J’ai croisé, sur le bateau, Ronnie, le chanteur/guitariste de PERKELE, qui m’a gentiment offert un de ses albums et j’ai pu rencontrer le band entier à Québec.
- J’ai passé l’après-show d’Uppsala avec LASTKAJ 14. Je me suis fait payer un verre par Pierre Pettersson, le chanteur/bassiste. Je ne bois pas, mais j’ai fait une exception. Ce n’est pas tous les jours qu’on se fait offrir un drink par son idole.
- J’ai chillé à plusieurs reprises avec Olle, le batteur de LASTKAJ 14, qui, en plus d’être le meilleur batteur, est la personne la plus chaleureuse que j’ai jamais rencontrée.
- J’ai été invitée par Ammy la chanteuse/guitariste de LASTKAJ 14 à son atelier, où j’ai fabriqué un verre avec le logo du band. C’est confirmé, je n’ai aucun talent dans le verre soufflé!
Sérieux, essayez de battre ça!
N’hésitez pas à rencontrer vous idoles, vos artistes préférés. La grande majorité des musiciens sont sympathiques et apprécient les fans qui les suivent.
Ça a été un honneur pour moi de pouvoir les remercier en personne, mais je ne m’attendais jamais à autant de considération. Ce serait trop long de tout énumérer ce que LASTKAJ 14 a fait pour moi au-delà de la musique. Je n’arrive toujours pas à y croire. Car les filles invisibles comme moi n’ont jamais cette chance.
CONCLUSION
Je sais pertinemment que rien ne pourra battre les spectacles de 2024, mais 2025 va me gâter côté sorties d’albums. J’attends entre autres avec impatience les albums de PERKELE, FRUKTANSVÄRLD et PASTORATET.

Unsurprisingly, LASTKAJ 14 is number 1 for the 7th year. They released 18 new songs in 2024. A 6-song EP in May and a 12-song album in September. And I, of course, abused the latter with over 79 hours of listening in just 3 months. I still haven’t recovered from what this album put me through [review here: www.chicksrockmedia.com/js_albums/djavulskorset/]. Probably their best album since Ammy became a member in 2017. Don’t ask me to vary my listening when my favorite band of all time releases songs of this quality!

2024 was a dream when it comes to shows. Here’s a list of the main shows that made 2024 a record year for me!
I won’t be able to go into detail for each, even though they all deserve it, but several reviews have already been published on CRM. However, I absolutely must tell you about the ones that left the strongest impressions on me!
APRIL 28, 2024, LION’S LAW (L’ANTI, QUÉBEC)
One of the best Oi bands! It’s been on my wishlist for so long (since 2018)! Extra-talented and friendly musicians. Incredible show, perfect sound (that’s L’Anti!). I remember a very close and personal and warm moment. A little Sunday evening with friends kind of vibe.
MAY 10 TO 20, 2024, SWEDEN
We are privileged to have such great bands coming to visit us from overseas, but sometimes we have to cross the ocean to see the bands who can’t make it.
This year, I was lucky enough to see or see once again several of my favorite Swedish bands who were present on the punk cruise, Close-Up baten (that is Perkele, Ulke with Charta 77 (Dia Psalma, Strebers), Kardinal Synd, EPA, Smajävlafötter, Slutstation Tjernobil. You can’t really call it luck, since I had to remortgage my house (almost) and travel all the way to Sweden (+6000 km) to get to experience this. The opportunity to see all these bands in one trip weighed heavily in the balance, but honestly, I was going for one reason only, Lastkaj 14. An extremely expensive trip, that I couldn’t afford, but that was worth every hour worked, every penny spent. Because, for me, there’s no other place in the world where I feel like I belong, and no other time when I’m happy to be me! I’ve attended three Lastkaj 14 shows of incredible quality.
MAY 10, 2024, PUSTERVIK, GÖTEBORG (SWEDEN)
I landed in Gothenburg for the first show, taking place in a large hall for 900 people. There weren’t 900 of us, but there was a great dynamic crowd singing all the words to every song! A committed and respectful crowd, nothing like in Quebec.
MAY 11 2024, KATALIN, UPPSALA (SWEDEN)
I followed the band to Uppsala the next day. This time the show was at a larger venue, but on a smaller stage and with a smaller crowd. A much more intimate setting, and a real closeness to the musicians. I remember standing at the front, the sound of the magnificent Ammy’s guitar right in front of me, my eyes riveted on the drummer, who puts on quite a show, and who you never see enough of in videos. A powerful, clean sound and an impeccable performance from the band. Even in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t have hoped for a better performance. I can say without hesitation that this show and the evening that followed were the best moments of my life.
MAY 18, 2024, PAAVLI KULTUURIVABRIK, TALLINN (ESTONIA)
The last show was at 3pm, outside, during the stopover in Tallinn, Estonia. Another show well worth the trip. But this one touched me not only by its quality, but by its uniqueness. This was my second trip and each time I went to see them, I have received a special treatment from the band. For the Tallin show, they invited former band member Safran on stage to play violin on a few songs, including “Tjuvtricks och rackarspel”, one of my favorites that they no longer play live. It wasn’t nice enough to invite him to play on the album after I’d “insisted” a bit in my review of their 2023 EP! Amazing moment!
SEPTEMBER 7, 2024, PERKELE AND THE PROWLERS, L’ANTI, QUÉBEC
FINALLY! After 8 years in waiting. Well, I saw Perkele in Sweden in May, but at home, at my favorite venue and with another of my favorite bands, The Prowlers, it was so much better! You have no idea how much I dreamed of this show. I kept hoping and was rewarded. Now it’s all etched in my mind forever. I had such high hopes for this show that my expectations were crazy, and I was not disappointed. Go and read my review of the evening! This band is simply incredible! I had such a great time that I kept my access bracelet on my wrist for 2 weeks to remember and relive the moment. I just couldn’t part from it all.
FAN ATTITUDE
2024 was also the year where I forgot I was the girl who stayed at the back, and I let myself be a real fan girl. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and experience special moments with my favorite artists.
Here’s a small list (in no specific order).
⦁ I chatted with Fredrik Olsson, Björnarna’s drummer, who couldn’t believe that Quebecers came to see underground Swedish bands. Swedish humility at its best, and cool guy! The band didn’t play that night, but I saw them in 2019.
⦁ I met Thomas Österberg, Fruktansvärld’s singer/guitarist, and his wife. They too were touched and happy that their music, even in Swedish, could reach people as far as Quebec. His band wasn’t playing either, but they’re at almost every Lastkaj 14 show. I knew they’d be there, so I put on his band’s jacket and my husband, his T-shirt.
⦁ I met Fredrik Olsson, singer/guitarist for Misconduct, and he gave me his setlist.
⦁ I met Ronnie, singer/guitarist for Perkele, on the boat, who kindly offered one of his albums, and I got to meet the whole band in Quebec City.
⦁ I spent the after show in Uppsala with Lastkaj 14. Singer/bassist Pierre Pettersson bought me a drink. I don’t drink, but I made an exception. It’s not every day you’re offered a drink from your idol.
⦁ I chilled several times with Olle, Lastkaj 14’s drummer who, in addition to being the best drummer, is the warmest person I’ve ever met.
⦁ I was invited by Ammy, Lastkaj 14’s singer/guitarist, to her workshop, where I made a glass with the band’s logo. It’s official, I have no talent in glassblowing!
Seriously, try to beat that!
Don’t hesitate to meet your idols, your favorite artists. The vast majority of musicians are friendly and appreciate the fans who follow them.
It was an honor for me to be able to thank them in person, but I never expected so much consideration. It becwould take too long to list everything Lastkaj 14 has done for me beyond the music. I still can’t believe it. Because invisible girls like me never get that chance.
CONCLUSION
I know for a fact that nothing can beat the shows of 2024, but 2025 is going to spoil me in terms of album releases. Among others, I’m looking forward to new albums from Perkele, Fruktansvärld and Pastoratet.
