ROCK LA CAUZE | THREE DAYS GRACE + ALEXISONFIRE + AUGUST BURNS RED + GUTTERMOUTH + FEELS LIKE HOME + HOPEFUL SIXTEEN + HIPSHOT | 12.08.2023

L’organisation ROCK LA CAUZE a une fois de plus réussi à aller chercher des groupes de tous les horizons. L’ordre de la programmation du samedi était un pari risqué, puisqu’au lieu de voir une évolution dans l’intensité du son, on a eu droit à un « melting pot » de genres. Je crois que ça a contribué à emmener et garder le plus de monde pour toute la journée et soirée du samedi.   

THREE DAYS GRACE est probablement un des groupes de rock alternatif les plus mainstream et l’organisation du festival a frappé fort en fermant l’édition 2023 avec eux. Le groupe est entré sur scène au son de « So Called Life », une pièce de leur plus récent album, Explosions.

Et ils nous ont martelé tous leurs titres vedettes, de « Home » et « I Hate Everything About You » à « I Am Machine », en passant par « Never Too Late »et « Pain ». Du bonbon pour les oreilles. 

Boum! Entrée fracassante sur « Accidents ». Le groupe ontarien ALEXISONFIRE s’est donné à fond et la foule a aimé ça! On pouvait voir les mosh pits des deux côtés du parterre (oui, même du côté VIP!). Fidèle à son habitude, Chris Steele nous en met plein la vue avec son énergie et ses grimaces. Il est tout simplement inimitable.

La totale maîtrise des harmonies à trois voix (Wade McNeil, Dallas Green et George Pettit) nous donne le frisson et nous hypnotise.

Ho! Làlà! La prestation du groupe de metalcore AUGUST BURNS RED nous a rentré dedans comme une tonne de briques!

Les fans étaient au rendez-vous pour écouter les riffs mélodiques alterner avec les breakdowns pesants pendant les douze morceaux choisis, parmi lesquels « The Truth of a Liar », « Invisible Enemy », « Ghosts » et « Paramount ». 

Et c’est ici que nous vous partageons notre gros coups de coeur du festival : les boys & girls de la sécurité et les ambulanciers! Vous êtes LA Dream Team, respect !

Juste avant, l’arrivée sur scène d’un Mark Adkins (GUTTERMOUTH) complètement « déchiré » mais joyeux, à seulement 18h laissait présager une catastrophe.

Quelques membres étaient déjà sur le party, parce que c’était l’anniversaire d’A.J., le drummer. Il a d’ailleurs eu droit à un gâteau alors que la foule lui chantait « happy birthday ».

Gâteau qui a pris son envol pour atterrir juste à côté de moi. Mark est un vrai clown sur scène. Alors même s’il a échappé son micro à deux ou trois reprises, il s’en sortait en amusant son public.

Au final, même si ce n’était pas toujours très « droit », GUTTERMOUTH a donné un très bon show. Après tout, c’est ça l’esprit punk rock! 

Les concerts de l’après-midi ont été assurés tout d’abord par le groupe grunge HIPSHOT, qui a été une excellente mise-en-bouche avec Marie, Max, Alex et JP.

Ensuite, on a pu découvrir la superbe et puissante voix de Stéphanie Auclair, chanteuse de HOPEFUL SIXTEEN, un groupe de metalcore alternatif originaire de Québec.

Finalement, j’ai pu reconnecter avec les riffs incisifs et puissants du groupe metalcore FEELS LIKE HOME et ainsi apprécier la présence électrisante du chanteur, Michael Cyr-Landry. À noter un feat. avec Victoria de PEER PRESSURE que l’on a hâte de revoir sur le stage. Sincèrement, j’en aurais pris encore.

Voilà! Deux jours d’un festival bien rempli. ROCK LA CAUZE, vous avez mis la barre très haut pour vos futures éditions. J’ai déjà hâte de connaître la programmation 2024. Et encore une fois, merci pour votre implication auprès des différentes causes de votre région, vous êtes inspirants.
Pour les lecteurs je rappelle que cette année, c’est plus de 40 000$ qui ont été partagés entre les organismes à but non lucratif suivants : la Société protectrice des animaux d’Arthabaska, la Fondation Kiméyan, et le Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable.

Once again, the Rock la Cauze organization succeeded in attracting bands from all horizons. Saturday’s program lineup was a risky gamble, since instead of seeing an evolution in the intensity in the sound, we were treated to a melting pot of genres. I think this helped bring in and keep as many people as possible for the whole day and evening of Saturday.   

THREE DAYS GRACE is probably one of the most mainstream of rock alternative bands, and the festival team struck hard by closing the 2023 edition with them. The band took to the stage with “So Called Life”, a track from their latest album, Explosions. And they blasted out all of their hits, from “Home” and “I Hate Everything About You” to “I Am Machine”, “Never Too Late” and “Pain”. Ear candy. 

Boom! A smashing entrance on “Accidents”. Ontario band ALEXISONFIRE gave it their all, and the crowd loved it! You could see the mosh pits on both sides of the stage (yes, even on the VIP side!). True to his habit, Chris Steele dazzled us with his energy and grimaces. He’s simply inimitable. The total mastery of the three-part harmonies (Wade McNeil, Dallas Green and George Pettit) gives us the shivers and hypnotizes us.

Wow! Metalcore band AUGUST BURNS RED hit us like a ton of bricks! Fans turned out in force to listen to melodic riffs alternating with heavy breakdowns during 12 tracks including “The Truth of a Liar”, “Invisible Enemy”, “Ghosts” and “Paramount”.

And this is where we share with you mostly our favourite part of the festival: the security boys & girls and the paramedics! You are THE Dream Team, respect!

Just before, the entrance on stage of a completely « wasted » yet happy Mark Adkins (GUTTERMOUTH) at only 6 p.m. made us fear a disaster. Some members were already, well, ready to party, because it was drummer A.J.’s birthday. He was treated to a cake as the crowd was singing him “Happy Birthday”. That cake took flight and landed right next to me. Mark is a real clown on stage. So even though he dropped his microphone 2 or 3 times, he managed to keep his audience amused. In the end, even if it wasn’t always very « tight », GUTTERMOUTH put on a very good show. After all, that’s the punk rock spirit! 

The afternoon concerts were led by grunge band HIPSHOT, who were an excellent appetizer. Next up was the superb, powerful voice of Stéphanie Auclair, lead singer of HOPEFUL SIXTEEN, an alt-metalcore band from Quebec City. Finally, I was able to reconnect with the incisive, powerful riffs of metalcore band FEELS LIKE HOME and to appreciate the electrifying presence of singer Michael Cyr-Landry. We’ve noted a feat. with Victoria from PEER PRESSURE, who we can’t wait to see again on the stage. Honestly, I could have gotten some more.

So there it is! Two days of a well-rounded festival. Rock la Cauze, you’ve set the bar very high for future editions. I can’t wait to see what the 2024 program will offer. And once again, thank you for your involvement with the various causes in your region, you’re an inspiration. It bears repeating that this year, over $40,000 was raised and shared in between the following not-for-profit organizations: the Société protectrice des animaux d’Arthabaska, the Kiméyan Foundation, and the Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable.
