ROCK LA CAUZE | BAD RELIGION + GOLDFINGER + CHASER + BAD SKIN | 11.08.2023

Cette année, j’assistais à mon 3e festival ROCK LA CAUZE, à Victoriaville. Mon premier en tant que média. Je dois vous dire que je manque un peu d’impartialité, car j’adore ce festival. Tout d’abord, pour sa raison d’être. À chaque année, l’organisation du festival remet la totalité des profits à une cause différente. Cette année, ce sont trois organismes qui se partageront les gains d’un peu plus de 40 000$ amassés pendant les trois jours du festival : la Société protectrice des animaux d’Arthabaska, la Fondation Kiméyan sans oublier le Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable. Ça démontre à quel point les punk rockers ont grand cœur. Ensuite, parce que tout le monde est super cool. Autant les festivaliers, que les nombreux bénévoles, les membres de l’organisation et même les agents de sécurité, qui se prennent à l’occasion pour des animateurs de foule. La totale! 

BAD RELIGION
La tête d’affiche du vendredi était BAD RELIGION. Bien qu’il vienne assez régulièrement au Québec, le groupe de punk rock californien était très attendu et il a livré la marchandise.

Greg Graffin a probablement la voix la plus mélodieuse du milieu punk rock.

Les gars ne sont plus des jeunesses et malgré tout ils ont une énergie incroyable sur scène. Et ils sont « rodés au quart de tour », comme on dit. Le groupe nous a gratifiés de 25 de leurs hits.

Entrés sur scène avec « New Dark Ages », nous avons pu entendre, entre autres, « Fuck You », « Do What You Want », « The Streets of America », « Sorrow » et pour terminer, « 21st Century (Digital Boy) ».

Alors que ma virtuose du kodak favorite me disait que  « plus personne ne fait des rappels de nos jours », les membres de BAD RELIGION sont remontés sur scène pour un rappel de trois de leurs pièces les plus populaires : « Punk Rock Song », « Fuck Armageddon… This is Hell » et, bien sûr, LA toune « American «Jesus ».

GOLDFINGER
Je dois avouer que j’ai adoré ma première fois avec GOLDFINGER, tout comme, j’en suis sûre,  les miliers de festivaliers qui ont chanté avec le groupe la majorité des refrains.

Je parlais plus tôt de l’énergie de Bad Religion, mais ce n’est rien à côté de celle des gars de GOLDFINGER. Lorsqu’ils ne chantaient pas, les gars n’ont pas arrêté de courir, sauter, tourner, tout en jouant de leur guitare ou basse.

Le groupe a fait son entrée sur « Spokesman ». Nous avons ensuite eu droit à d’excellents titres tels que « Counting the Days », « Get What INeed » et des reprises transformées à leur son comme « I’ll be There for You »de The Rembrandts et « Song 2 »de Blur.

Le moment touchant de la soirée leur revient, alors qu’ils ont fait monter des dizaines d’enfants sur scène pour danser et chanter avec eux « Superman ». 

CHASER
Ne me lancez pas de roches, mais je ne connaissais CHASER que de nom, avant de les voir à ROCK LA CAUZE. Le groupe de skate punk américain était tout de même très attendu et a fait le bonheur de la foule.

Dès le premier morceau, Mike LeDonne, le chanteur était en bas de la scène, en équilibre sur la clôture qui le séparait des festivaliers et il leur tendait régulièrement le micro.

Le groupe a su accrocher et faire participer son public tout au long de sa prestation. Mike est allé jusqu’à chanter tout en faisant du crowd surfing, au grand dam des agents de sécurité.

Belle prestation! Un autre groupe à ajouter à ma playlist. 

La soirée a débuté avec le groupe de hard rock/métal DANCE LAURY DANCE , que nous avons malheureusement manqué. Ils ont été suivis du groupe punk 100% féminin BAD SKIN. Les filles nous ont montré qu’on peut avoir du style, aimer le rose ET rocker!

This year, I attended my 3rd Rock la Cauze festival, in Victoriaville. My first as media. I have to tell you that I’m a bit biased, because I love this festival. First of all, for its raison d’être. Every year, the festival organizers donate all profits to a different cause. This year, just over $40,000 raised over the three days of the festival will be shared between three charities : la Société protectrice des animaux d’Arthabaska, la Fondation Kiméyan and le Centre de prévention suicide Arthabaska-Érable.  It just goes to show how big-hearted punk rockers can be. Second, because everyone is so cool. The festival-goers, the many volunteers, the members of the organization and even the security guards, who occasionally take on the role of crowd entertainers. The whole package! 

BAD RELIGION
Friday’s headliner was BAD RELIGION. Although they come to Quebec fairly regularly, the Californian punk rock band was eagerly awaited and they delivered the goods. Greg Graffin has probably the most melodious voice in punk rock. The guys aren’t young anymore, but they still have incredible energy on stage. And they’re « broken in », as the saying goes. The band delivered 25 of their hits. Opening with « New Dark Ages », we got to hear « Fuck You », « Do What You Want », « The Streets of America », « Sorrow » and « 21st Century », among others. And as my favorite kodak virtuoso was telling me that « nobody does encores these days », the members of BAD RELIGION came back for an encore of three of their most popular songs: « Punk Rock Song », « Fuck Armageddon… This is Hell » and, of course, THE hit: « American Jesus ».

GOLDFINGER
I have to admit that I loved my first time with GOLDFINGER, as I’m sure also did the thousands of festival-goers who sang along with the band to most of the refrains. I mentioned earlier the energy of Bad Religion, but that’s nothing compared to the energy of the guys in GOLDFINGER. When they weren’t singing, the guys didn’t stop running, jumping, spinning, while playing their guitar or bass. The band made their entrance on « Spokesman ». We were then treated to excellent tracks such as « Counting the Days », « Get What I Need » and covers à la Goldfinger such as The Rembrandts’ « I’ll be There for You » and Blur’s « Song 2 ». The touching moment of the evening came when they brought dozens of children on stage to dance and sing « Superman » with them. 

CHASER
Don’t throw rocks at me, but I only knew CHASER by name before seeing them at Rock la Cauze. The American skate punk band was nevertheless eagerly awaited and they delighted the crowd. From the very first song, lead singer Mike LeDonne was at the bottom of the stage, balancing on the fence separating him from the festival-goers and regularly handing them the microphone. The band kept their audience hooked and involved throughout their set. Mike even went so far as to sing along while crowd surfing, much to the dismay of the security guards. Great show! Another band to add to my playlist. 

The evening kicked off with hard rock/metal band DANCE LAURY DANCE , which we unfortunately missed. They were followed by the 100% female punk band BAD SKIN. The girls showed us that you do it all: have style, love pink AND rock!
