FESTIVAL D’ÉTÉ DE QUÉBEC – PARC DE LA FRANCOPHONIE | CHOSES SAUVAGES + CLAUDIA BOUVETTE + GHOSTLY KISSES + HYD | 11.07.2023

Pour moi les festivals sont toujours propices à des découvertes vraiment intéressantes. La soirée du 11 juillet n’a pas fait exception. Par (enfin) une soirée pas trop chaude ni à risque d’orage, je me suis rendue à l’ancien Pigeonnier, où pour une deuxième année deux scènes sont installées côte-à-côte. Cette configuration a l’avantage de pouvoir enchaîner les prestations sans trop attendre, mais aussi l’inconvénient de ne pas pouvoir, pour les spectateurs, bien voir les deux scènes. À moins d’être bien placé au milieu, vous allez en manquer des bouts. Fin de la parenthèse.

La soirée commence avec la belle HYD, qui nous sert avec ses mains tout en ondulations un électro-pop « space », un genre de synthwave lent et apaisant (avec autotune toutefois).

Seule sur scène, l’artiste multidisciplinaire est accompagnée de ses pistes et séquences d’ASMR qui ajoutent beaucoup d’ambiance à sa prestation plutôt statique.

Heureusement les images en fond de scène traduisent bien cette ambiance, et je suis conquise. HYD nous parle tout doucement, encore, et termine sa prestation sans nous le dire, avec un seul petit « bye ».

Ce fut une très bonne introduction pour GHOSTLY KISSES, dont j’avais entendu parler sans en connaître la musique. Dans le même esprit de douceur et de souhait d’accorder toute son importance au moment présent, on se fait bercer de beauté en voix et en harmonies de clavier, guitare et violon.

La prestation est sobre, intime, comme une marée qui prend le temps de monter.

On se sent poussé à ralentir, à fermer les yeux, à prendre le temps de respirer. Merci pour ce câlin spirituel.

Ensuite, on change radicalement de style avec CLAUDIA BOUVETTE et son DG aux lunettes blanches. Le contraste est plus que frappant, c’est le temps de danser et de montrer ses couleurs – tout en rouge pour Miss Bouvette, qui sait prendre sa place sur scène.

Elle a le visage confiant d’Amy Winehouse, l’allure de Lady Gaga et un soupçon de coquinerie de, oui oui, Dolly Parton avec son chapeau de cowgirl. Faut le prendre comme un compliment!

Elle livre une prestation assurée et assumée, entre autres avec deux invités (Sophia Bel et Claude Bégin) tout aussi heureux d’être là. 

Qui n’a jamais vu CHOSES SAUVAGES sur scène doit absolument ajouter cette bande éclatée à sa liste. Ils sont nombreux, joyeux et sérieux, intenses et bons, juste bons.

Du jeu scénique, surtout de la part du chanteur, Félix, mais aussi de l’authenticité, un funk/groove francophone irrésistible, une fusion parfaite avec la foule, des fans plus qu’heureux de chanteur en chœur, je donne une note de 10/10 facile.

On se laisser porter par cette vague déferlante de musique qui remplit le cœur et les oreilles, et on ne veut pas que ça finisse. Pas besoin d’en redemander, nos CHOSES SAUVAGES donnent tout.

Malheureusement, le party prend fin de façon abrupte car un orage avance sur la ville. Et c’était la bonne à décision à prendre. On se reprendra une autre fois pour LES LOUANGES qui devait clore la soirée.

For me, festivals are always a good place to make really interesting finds. The evening of July 11th was no exception. On that evening that finally wasn’t too hot or stormy, I headed for the old Pigeonnier, where for a second year two stages were set up side-by-side. This configuration allows the stringing of performances one after the other without too much delay, but it also has the disadvantage for the crowd to not being able to see both stages properly. Unless you’re standing in the middle, you’ll miss bits and pieces. End of parenthesis.

The evening start with the beautiful HYD, who uses her waving hands to serve up « spacey » electro-pop, a kind of slow, soothing synthwave (albeit with autotune). Alone on stage, the multidisciplinary artist is accompanied by her own ASMR tracks and sequences, which add a great deal of ambiance to her rather static performance. Fortunately, the images in the background convey this atmosphere well, and I’m won over. HYD speaks softly to us, again, and ends her performance without telling us, with just a little « bye ».

It was a great introduction to GHOSTLY KISSES, whose name I’d heard of but not their music yet. In the same spirit of gentleness and a desire to make the present moment all-important, we are lulled into beauty by the voices and harmonies of keyboard, guitar and violin. The performance is sober and intimate, like a tide taking the wind. You feel compelled to slow down, close your eyes and take the time to breathe. Thank you sweet ghosts for this spiritual hug.

After that we’re in for a radical change of genre with CLAUDIA BOUVETTE and her white sunglasses-wearing DJ. The contrast is more than striking, it’s now time to dance and show our true colors – all in red for Miss Bouvette, who knows how to own the stage. She has the confident face of Amy Winehouse, the allure of Lady Gaga and a hint of the mischievousness of, yes yes, Dolly Parton with her cowgirl hat. Which is a compliment! She delivers a very assertive performance, and has two guests over (Sophia Bel and Claude Bégin) who are just as happy to be there. 

If you’ve never seen CHOSES SAUVAGES live on stage, you’ve got to add this wild bunch to your list. They are many, boisterous and serious, intense and good, just good. There’s some stagecraft, especially on the part of singer Félix, but also authenticity, an irresistible francophone funk/groove, perfect fusion with the crowd, and fans more than happy to sing along – I give them an easy 10/10. You let yourself be carried away by this surging wave of music that fills your heart and ears, and you don’t want it to end. No need to ask for more, this band give it their all. Unfortunately, the party comes to an abrupt end as a thunderstorm is rolling into town. And it was the right decision to make. We’ll be back another time for Les Louanges, who was supposed to close the evening.
